❖ Have the student say the name and sound of each vowel aloud.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
❖ Explain that he will now learn to blend consonant sounds together. Read
several list words aloud v e r y s l o w l y . Then , read the same words a
little faster, and then a little faster s t i l l . As you increase your speed a
little each time, the student will gradually hear how the consonant sounds
blend together in each word. It will take quite a bit of practice before the
student’s ear can really hear the blend. Although you increase your speed
each time, you will still be reading fairly slowly.
